Bitter Sweet dark chocolate with a sprinkling of tangy Iranian Zereshk Berries
Inspiration - A visit to Britannia Cafe got me hooked to these little red jewels, The berries added a beautiful tangy flavor profile to the Iconic Berry Pulao and it also got me wondering as to why these little beauties were not used more in everyday food!
Barberry contains a chemical known as berberine that gives it its medicinal value. This chemical acts as an antibiotic to kill fungi, bacteria, and protozoa. The fruit contains a chemical like protoberberin alkaloids and isoquinoline that are effective in treating a number of ailments. Barberry is also a rich source of Vitamin C and B vitamins like thiamine and minerals like zinc.
Wine Pairing - The fruity notes of this Bar pairs well with a fruity, high acid Sauvignon Blanc, One can also opt for the dessert style Riesling. For reds, go with a strong spicy Zinfandel to soften the acidity of the chocolate.
